What is an onion?

Many people suffer from a bunion, a deformity of the metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint at the base of the big toe. A bunion develops when the first metatarsal bone in the foot turns outward and the big toe points inward (toward the other toes), causing the joint to protrude (see "Anatomy of a Bunion"). The Latin name for this deformity is hallux valgus (hallux means big toe and valgus means turned away from the midline of the body). Most shoes do not accommodate the resulting protrusion and therefore put pressure on the misaligned joint. Eventually, the bursa (a fluid-filled sac that surrounds and cushions the joint) becomes inflamed and the entire joint becomes stiff and painful.

How long should I wear them per day?

It is intended for day and night use. At night, you can wear it all night while you sleep to correct your toes, you can wear it with or without socks

During the day, you can wear it with a snug sock in your shoes for your daily movements. We do not recommend wearing the bunion sleeves for more than 5 hours in your shoes

You can also wear them without shoes all day to walk around your house
